We seek an experienced Chief Technician to work closely with the Principal Investigator, Post Docs and Students in designing, carrying out, and coordinating research in the laboratory. Research in the A. Sepulveda laboratory is centered on characterization of molecular mechanisms underlying digestive organ cancers and identification of diagnostic genomic and epigenetic bio-markers for prevention and early detection, diagnosis, prognosis and targeted personalized therapies. Current projects include studies of genomic bio-markers in Barrett’s esophagus and gastric cancer.

Requires a master’s degree and at least one year experience, or a bachelor’s degree and at least three years of related experience or equivalent in education, training and experience.
The candidate selected for this position is required to undergo a drug screening test prior to a final offer of employment being made.

The position requires:
1: Excellent skills in molecular biology including: nucleic acid isolation including from paraffin samples of human tissue and analyses by PCR, high-throughput sequencing and micro-array analysis. Experience with next-generation sequencing platforms, micro-arrays, RNA-Seq and epigenetic testing is required. Other technical requirements include ability to perform western blots, IHC and immunofluorescence.
2: Experience in cell culture specifically using si or shRNAs.
3: Ability to plan and design projects independently with limited supervision of PI as well as to work in a team setting.
4: Skilled with computer based operations including database maintenance and graphic data output, basic statistics and basic bioinformatics and use of writing and reference annotation software. Skilled at data analyses from next-generation sequencing, RNA-Seq and micro-array datasets.
5: Great organizational and time management skills.
6: Superior written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to train personnel and clearly communicate and report scientific objectives and project results, and to effectively interact with collaborating investigators.
7: Ability to oversee equipment procurement and maintenance.
8: Ability to oversee day to day activities in the lab, including supervising ordering of supplies, developing and implementing standard operating procedures, and supervising lab members on lab safety and compliance.
A master’s degree in a biological science or related subject area.
