The Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology at Uppsala University (http://www.igp.uu.se) has a broad research profile with several strong research groups focused on Genomics, Cancer and Molecular Diagnostics. Research is presently conducted in the following areas: Medical and Clinical Genetics, Immunology, Pathology, Tumor Biology and Vascular Biology. Parts of the organization are also integrated with the departments for Clinical Genetics, Immunology and Pathology-Cythology at Akademiska sjukhuset, Uppsala. The department provides a well-developed infrastructure for advanced molecular sciences, including access to front-line technology as well as core facilities for cell analyses, DNA sequencing and genotyping. The Department has a yearly turnover of around 340 million SEK with a staff of around 340 people, 120 of these which are PhD-students.
We are looking for a Bioinformatician to provide support to biomedical scientists in the experimental planning, processing, analysis, integration and publication of transcriptomic next- generation sequencing (NGS) data including RNAseq, single cell sequencing, and possibly proteomics. The task will involve data modeling, statistical analysis and meta-analysis. The post holder will perform analysis and interpretation of large in-house and/or public data sets, using publicly available packages and commercial software. The candidate will contribute with design and develop ongoing and future projects, working as part of an interactive research team.
The bioinformatician will work together with other members of the team and with collaborators, especially within the vascular biology division. The ability to work independently and as part of a team is essential for this position.
The position requires a PhD or a foreign degree equivalent with a PhD. The degreeshould have been completed within three years before the application deadline. Inspecial cases a degree older than three years can be accepted.
PhD or equivalent in computer science, bioinformatics or related discipline
- Experience in the analysis of NGS data, particularly RNA-seq and single-cellsequencing (The analysis started from sequence raw data FASTQ file, familiar withsequence alignment, statistics for gene differential expression analysis)
- Experience in the analysis and manipulation of large datasets
- Experience in data visualization
- Experience in meta-analysis
- Good understanding of biological concepts or willingness to learn. Experience working with bench scientists is a plus
- Good organizational, communication and social skills
- Good publication track record
- Proficiency in written and spoken English
- Good presentation skills
